Suicide Awareness Sessions for Your Workplace
If your organisation agreed what an acceptable number of suicides at work would be, the answer would almost certainly be zero. Our suicide awareness workshopss how workplaces turn that answer into action.
The Jordan Legacy delivers lived experience suicide awareness and prevention workshops and talks to UK and overseas organisations of every size — grounded in lived experience, guided by safe messaging, and focused on practical skills your people can use the very next day.

"Most kids looked up to Jordan. He was fiercely loyal and would always stand up for the underdog, publicly confronting bullies or those who would mock others."
Why does workplace suicide awareness matter?
Most of us spend around a third of our lives at work, and most people who take their own lives each year are employed. That makes the workplace one of the most important places for suicide prevention — and colleagues, managers and leaders some of the people best placed to notice when someone is struggling.

More than 7,000 people take their own lives in the UK each year. We believe most suicides are preventable, and that two messages sit at the heart of prevention: anyone can be affected by suicide, and everyone can help prevent suicides.
What does our suicide awareness workshop cover?
Every programme is tailored to your organisation, but core sessions typically cover:
- Understanding suicide — busting myths and reducing stigma, using safe, evidence-informed language
- Spotting the signs — recognising when a colleague may be struggling with their mental health
- How to have difficult conversations — asking about suicide directly, safely and with compassion
- Signposting and support — connecting people to the right help, including your Employee Assistance Programme or external services
- Creating a psychologically safe workplace — the culture, policies and everyday behaviours that help people speak up before crisis
For organisations that want to go further, we also work alongside HR and wellbeing teams to design suicide prevention and postvention strategies — including how your internal policies and procedures affect employee wellbeing, and how to respond well if the worst happens.

What about suicide first aid training and certified courses?
Alongside our non-accredited awareness sessions, we would recommend exploring the following accredited training:
- Living Works ASIST
- Suicide First AID (SFA)
- safeTALK
by Grassroots Suicide Prevention
We recommend that at least two senior leaders in every organisation undertake certified training and become trauma informed.
We'll also point you to excellent free resources, such as the Zero Suicide Alliance's free, NHS-approved 30-minute online suicide awareness course, and the R;pple suicide prevention browser tool for workplace devices.
For businesses looking to embed suicide awareness and prevention as part of their organisational culture, we strongly recommend
downloading a copy of the British Standards Institute's (BSI) BS30480 Suicide and the Workplace.
