Workplace Mental Health Training and Suicide Prevention
If your company agreed what an acceptable number of suicides at work would be, the answer would almost certainly be zero. We're here to help you make that ambition real.

Most of us spend a third of our lives at work, so workplaces must be psychologically safe environments where mental health and employee wellbeing are treated as core business issues. Most people who take their own lives each year are employed — which means employers, managers and colleagues all have a genuine part to play in suicide prevention.
What we believe
Discover Our Vision →
"Most kids looked up to Jordan. He was fiercely loyal and would always stand up for the underdog, publicly confronting bullies or those who would mock others."
Why does suicide prevention in the workplace matter?
More than 7,000 people die by suicide in the UK every year, and suicide is the biggest killer of adults under 35 — a large part of the working-age population. Anyone can be affected by suicide, and everyone can help prevent suicides.

A supportive workplace, where leaders and managers know how to spot when a colleague is struggling and how to respond, saves lives. It also builds trust, loyalty and a healthier culture for everyone.
How can The Jordan Legacy help our organisation?
We work with companies and organisations of all sizes to raise awareness of what employers and managers can do to improve wellbeing and reduce the risk of suicide. Our support includes:
- Talks and workshops on topics like having difficult conversations and recognising when a colleague is struggling
- Collaboration with HR and wellbeing teams to design suicide prevention and postvention strategies
- Policy reviews — considering how internal policies and procedures affect employee wellbeing and mental health
- Events and conferences that provide practical guidance on creating and sustaining a psychologically safe workplace

What can our company do today? Five practical actions
Here are five easy-to-implement actions your school, college or university can start taking today:
1. Share two key messages with everyone:
"Anyone can be affected by suicide" and "Everyone can help prevent suicides."
2. Train senior and line managers
in mental health and suicide awareness, with at least two directors trauma-informed and certified in mental health and suicide prevention training — our training partners Tara Powell and Steve Carr can help. Start with our Workplace Training page.
3. Encourage all employees
to take the free, NHS-approved, 20-minute online training from the Zero Suicide Alliance.
4. Install the R;pple Suicide Prevention tool
on all workplace PCs and laptop devices.
5. Signpost your Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
clearly and encourage its use — or point to appropriate external mental health support if you don't have one.
What we believe
What standards and pledges can we sign up to?
Two important industry-wide initiatives can strengthen your approach to suicide prevention in the workplace:
- The Baton of Hope Workplace Pledge — a nationwide commitment for employers to make their workplaces psychologically safe, underpinned by established clinical models and lived experience.
- BS 30480: Suicide and the Workplace — the British Standards Institution's guidelines helping companies of all sizes identify and manage suicide risk, strengthen policies and culture, hold confident and compassionate conversations, and support staff and families after a suicide loss.
What if a colleague is struggling right now?
Our
I'm Worried About Someone page explains the warning signs and how to ask directly about suicide. If a colleague needs urgent help, share our
I Need Help Now page. For sector-specific signposting — including
